I prefer to work in watercolor because I love the spontaneous quality and many special effects which can be utilized. I usually work in transparent watercolor, although I do work with collage and mixed media occasionally. My work is basically realistic, but I mix abstract patterns into my paintings, so my work is a combination of both realistic and abstract shapes and patterns. I enjoy doing portraits and studies of people, and also still lifes and landscapes. I am very interested in creating dramatic light and dark values through the use of deep shadow and strong light source. I love strong saturated color.
I have a degree in Art Education from Bowling Green State University where I concentrated in painting.I have a Master's in Curriculum, Supervision and Administration from Wright State University. I have taught visual arts in the public schools for over 40 years, and am currently the art instructor at the Cooperative Learning Center in Shelby County teaching art to at risk children. I am a member of the Lake Loramie Artist Cooperative, the Riverside Arts Center in Wapakoneta and the Gateway Arts Council of Sidney and Shelby County. I currently teach adult watercolor classes. I have displayed my work in numerous art shows , and have received several ribbons and awards. I have had 3 one man shows in local galleries and also have work displayed locally. This year I received the First Place Award at the Delphos Canal Days show, and blue ribbons in watercolor in both St. Mary's and Wapakoneta.
